An aspirant can be fit to receive the grace of Illumination, ones mind and heart must flow in one direction. The individual becomes more refined, first through changing tamas, tamas being inertia and ignorance, into rajas, intense activity, then rajas into sattva, the pure state of calm and receptiveness. Ones progressing in one’s path becoming highly sensitive in their perceptions, and feelings at that point. The point being, clarity of mind and Bhakti are directly related, can you see. In the Shreemad Bhagavadtan Krishna says, “The unceasing flow of the mind stream towards me, at the mere mention of My virtues, combined with motive less love, prem (prem is motive less love) for me is the characteristic of the real Bhakti Yoga.” Remember, Bhakti can be felt toward Krishna, or any deity, Saint, or Guru.
When a Bhakta has surrendered to the Divine Will, everything that happens is seen as Divine Law. Remember I’ve told you, there really isn’t anything bad or good, it just is. One understands that all experiences are part of the Divine process, they are the means to removing imperfections. All egotistical tendencies must stop. This occurs through our actions, and experiences over time. Patangali addresses surrender quite simply in the Yoga Sutras, “Surrender to The Supreme leads to Samadhi.”
Grace is always in existence, but very misunderstood and hardly ever felt. This is because most people are closed up, they’re not receptive. The receptivity of Grace requires ones mind to be calm, and one pointed, so Grace can arise. In so doing, transcendental knowledge simultaneously arises also. Through Grace one is able to recognize ones mental blocks and faults. It is Grace that leads to one meeting ones Guru. It is Grace that leads one to expansion, and Higher Awareness. It is Grace when the Guru helps the disciple over come the conditioning’s of the mind. Very important there. When one is tuned into Grace, it flows automatically. One cannot intellectually, or willfully create it in the mind, this receptive state that I’m speaking to you of. No matter how much one reads or hears about it, it can only arise spontaneously through the yoga practices, especially Bhakti Yoga. Through practices the mind is slowly transformed through the removal of all conditioning, you see.
